Eugene 03:01
I can't cry for you anymore, Eugene. I can't try for you anymore, Eugene. These are complicated times and it's your right to change your mind But please let this be the last time, Eugene. There's a strong wind in the backyard, Eugene. It could carry you so very far, Eugene. But you never trust the weather, even when we're swept together Take your shelter like a savior, Eugene. Yellow eyes, or headlights Out beyond my windowsill When I open up, you come just close enough to touch If you don't want me now, you never will. You may think that all my waiting is a trap And that might be why you rarely call me back. But this patience is a rose, with her tired face exposed There are petals falling at your feet, Eugene. Gather up your useless bounty, Eugene.

Some go by bicycle Some by commuter train Whatever your vehicle You must travel through the pain So let’s go there And face the terrain. Sit in the night and listen Hold the earth to your ear The O to the R horizon A shift in the lithosphere Let’s go there And face the terrain. Gather your golden people Your chaperones through the stars Point your compass inward Follow your map of stars Constellations carved in your veins Let’s go together And face the terrain. Fractal of petals Geometry of a leaf Infinite patterns of being You’re a landscape Worth exploring You go by bicycle I’ll catch the next plane When we reach our destination Our bodies will fill with rain Open your arms Embrace the terrain. Let’s go there And face the terrain.

Pet store iguana sitting On branch made of wire And construction paper, and the fake greenery Even you don’t believe. You’ve changed the color Of plastic, and index fingers Point to your signaling But here it don’t mean anything. You were meant For a warm rock in Sedona Panorama for your rotating eye And I don’t understand why You were doomed to end up In a 12-inch aquarium, a pet store in Iowa Looking up at a decal of the sky. I’m sorry that I stare When you can’t go anywhere It’s perfectly unfair And if the weather was better I’d drive you to the desert. Even if you escaped Disguised in the aisles several days Your life would be about the same As any pet we ever save A little bit more space inside a bigger cage. You were meant For a warm rock in Sedona Panorama for your rotating eye And I don’t understand why You were doomed to end up In a 12-inch aquarium, a pet store in Iowa Watching me cry.

Hold yourself together Control is all that matters And the wise men gasp At the light spilling out of your cracks. Keep only what’s needed Artery and seed Scattered on the floor of your body Empty as the lies you believed Unsteady earth lurching under your feet Slipping over the edge of nothing. Who will ever reach you In your catacomb. Where your softness turns to stone Where you face your monsters alone Making yourself hollow Weightless at the edge of nothing. I am reaching my hand Through your broken rib Maybe something will give We’ll find a way to bring the lives that we live To an understanding place Broken edges interlaced Holding hands at the edge of nothing Looking over the edge of nothing. Stay around Stay in time Keep your light Sewn to my side.
